THE EDITORS TOP LINKS
Every now and then I list radio sites that I find unique or
interesting in my travels across the internet, I hope you enjoy
them! (Sean Ison
- Editor)
Radio Nostalgia from Australia
Clark Sinclair hosts this weekly made for the Internet show. It features the great moments of Australian Radio Drama and programs from the era of the big radio variety programs. If you love classic drama that gets the imagination working (yet is often wonderfully corny at the same time) check out this page and check back each Wednesday for new programs.
All India Radio
A great website with everything..and I mean everything to do with radio in India. This site is packed with information and live audio feeds.
Diving radio
The only diving radio station on the entire internet! This is a live audio feed all about scuba diving.
Online resources for community radio stations
Provides funding advice, free online donations & volunteers service and information for community radio groups.
Acid Logic Internet Radio
One hell of a funny internet radio site! Billed as the “mindless blatherings” of Wil Forbis, its well worth a listen.
Be warned however that it can be ever so slightly adult at times! (My favourite was the “Safe sex show”).
Radio Production 1970's style
Whilst this is a commercial site selling broadcast equipment to the industry and I can
make no claims about the quality of their gear, the site has some great photos of those
production studios from the 1970's and 80's that we used to see. The site opens with
a great flash animation showcasing their equipment from the past to present. If you
remember radio being lots of non-automated knobs and buttons (like I do!) you'll love
this site.
Old BBC studio photos
This is a great site with lots of content and photos of the BBC's old broadcasting
facilities going back as far as 1932. The pick of the site would be the "gram" room
which you have to see to believe, I've never seen so many turntables in one place.
The studios are huge and the equipment panels fill the walls, this site
is a shrine to the days when radio ruled!
What teenagers find funny
This site attempts to solve the age old mystery of what it is that teenagers do
actually find funny. They have collected together a group of comedy radio shows
produced by teenagers and you can listen to them live in Real audio. For PD's who
have the dreaded 16-18 demographic to deal with, this site might well be
worth a visit.
The microphones radio used to have...
This site has a great collection of photos of vintage broadcast microphones.
Relive some great memories or see how it was. Although microphones have
improved in sound quality, theres a certain elegance that has gone and these
beauties will transport you back to the golden days of radio!
Interesting Radio one-Liners
So your about to go on air and you need something snappy to say. Well theres lots you
could say...but this site has some interesting daily one-liners that might be a better
idea! Although its a US site some of the content could easily fit the Aussie market.
So what is happening with LPFM in the US?
If one more person asks me how the LPFM licensing is going in America, I'm going to
scream..well OK maybe not! For all you folks who keep on asking heres the ultimate
answer. Monster FM has provided a great online form that lets you search for details
of all the licenses that have been applied for and granted.
Classic "Avengers" Radio shows
The classic cult Avengers TV series spawned many spin-offs including a very sucessful
radio program in South Africa. The Avengers was first transmitted in South Africa in
January 1972 on the commercial station, Springbok Radio, a subsidiary of the South
African Broadcasting Corporation. The series lasted for at least eighteen months and
around sixty serials, and could be heard at 7.15pm every weeknight during this time.
Check out this page for free MP3's of the shows.
Audience Dialogue: Case studies of radio listeners
Site provides useful information on the methods of audience dialogue. A free
collection of very interesting cases studies of interest to the professional broadcast.
Produced by an Adelaide-based company.
Mis-heard Song lyrics!
People tell their stories about what they THOUGHT they heard when a
song was playing on the radio. Some of these are hilarious, makes you
wonder if rock n' roll was such a good thing after all..!
Krud Radio Site
This is a great site dedicated to a kind of black comedy, criticism of
American Radio. Some of the jokes are a bit hard to work out but the
comic strip section is great. If you work in radio you'll find something
here to make you laugh for sure.
Laura Lee
Daily talk show with online audio feed that explores
"ancient mysteries, controversial and edgy new science, deep
philosophy, consciousness studies and wisdom traditions". A
very listenable talk back program that covers "new age" type
subjects as well as new science, great listening even for old
cynics like me!
On a Roll
Greg Smith, who has muscular dystrophy, hosts a weekly radio
talk show called "On A Roll" which covers all issues concerning
disability. Greg is joined in the studio by Judy Heumann.
Auto Answers Radio Program
US talk radio program that deals exclusively with car repair. Each
week callers phone in with their auto repair problems and Greg &
Tom help them out on air. Greg is a highly qualified motor mechanic
and a member of the society of automative engineers.
Radio Diaries: Reality Radio
Radio Diaries is a US project to record the daily lives in audio
of everyday people. Subjects include teenagers, judges, prisoners
in correctional facilties, light house keepers, farmers and more.
This is reality radio allowing listeners to eavesdrop on the lives
of ordinary people (if you like "big brother" for the ears!).
Sci Fi Internet Radio
Listen Here to 365 Live Ultimate SciFi Classics broadcast in real audio. Apparently by
popular vote new Broadcasts include Suspense, Space Patrol, X Minus One and several
surprises!
The Horse Radio Show
The Horse Show with Rick Lamb is the world's premier radio program on horses. Whether
you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, ride English or Western, have dozens of horses
or are preparing to buy your first horse, this program provides real information.
