Getting Airplay:

The Post, the post to Australia can be slow sometimes. Once we actually receive your CD release it goes in the IN tray as pending. It is then assessed for suitability for airplay.

Air time, If we have listened to online and specifically requested your material in recent correspondence (it is always helpful to include a photocopy of any correspondence as we deal with thousands of artists per week), or we have a long standing arrangement (for example we have received regular label compilations from you for a number of years) then acceptance for rotation is generally automatic.  Otherwise the CD will be assessed by the music director on the appropriate day reserved for sampling new releases in each of the genres we accept. Air time is expensive so we attempt to balance fairness with common sense and leave ourselves sufficient space to encourage new musical directions. There is no set formula for how music is selected however some of the main criterion can be:

· Suitability for broadcast—is the music radio friendly? If it breaks new ground is it likely to attract or detract listeners?

· Musicianship and performance—We are flexible but it should be up to a reasonable standard obviously.

· Audio quality—Under most circumstances we can only use studio recordings at CD quality.

· Does it sound like an established artist—This helps, but is not essential.

· Has it been proven in other markets—Has it received airplay on other stations already? If so where? How did it do?

No correspondence will be entered into regarding music selection including taking phone calls. Please let the music do the talking itself.

Confirmation, We will then manually email you to let you know that:

· Your CD has physically arrived in the post.

· If a CD has been accepted for airplay you will receive instructions on how to add the CD to the library. In order for music to receive free airplay the CD track details have to be entered into the ILR Library database by you.

· If the CD has been rejected for airplay we will advise you that it was unsuitable.

If you post us a CD and do not hear anything either way after approximately 60 days then please contact us here, but be aware that we receive a large number of emails each day and it may take a long time for us to get back to you. Also all CD’s we receive are sent down to Sydney once a week, so that those CD’s accepted into the library can be “ripped” into our national audio server. All scheduling is then done via computer from Newcastle. As the CD’s themselves become completely redundant they are stored in boxes offsite so they naturally become increasingly harder to locate as time goes on. Annually they are disposed of or passed on to community radio stations.

Rotation Levels,

New music from the subsequent 30 days is added to the playlists at the change of every calendar month (i.e. the 1st).

· VHR (Very High Rotation) - As new music is added it gets a blast of high rotation in its first or "birth" month.

· ACR (Annual Current Rotation) - After the birth month music rotation drops off to a moderate level consistent throughout the
remainder of the year.

· PCR (Previous Current Rotation) - At the end of the year music from that year (and subsequent years) get half the level of ACR and are also subject to review for deletion depending upon playlist load.

· GSR (Guaranteed Spot Rotation) - Very High Rotation past the birth month on a paid Month to Month promotional basis DETAILS
